In urban centers and small cities across the South we work with local Trans women to organize retreats for those who want to build connection to each other that is family and communities that support their lives.
These retreats focus on leadership and organizing skills, healing, mutual reliance, and most importantly, strong caring relationships. They are led by Miss Major and local women working together.
As these retreats grow, we will offer some retreats that bring women from different parts of the South together to share their work and ideas for a “stronger together” region that can support Trans women of color.
Miss Major hosts and leads retreats of 3-5 leaders in her home, the Oasis, to share and hone ideas, skills, and strategies for the advancement of Trans women of color in the South and across the country.
These retreats offer a chance for people to get to know one another as they sit in the garden in small groups, swim in the pool, make meals, and have deep and sometimes painful conversations mixed with hopeful and optimistic ones. They are able to socialize and organize, heal and grow, and connect to the bond family that we share as Trans people.
Miss Major’s experience of navigating through her years as a Trans woman of color will help the community to understand our history, our past, negotiate through the harm and danger of the present, and hope and plan for the future life before us.
