Joji Florence (they/them) is the founder, Board President, and Program Director of MJR Love Inc., a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to fostering the educational empowerment of genderful youth and allies. Joji created Teach Fabulous!, a professional development program that trains K-12 educators in NYC Public Schools District 13 to build inclusive, identity-affirming classrooms for LGBTQ+ students. The program’s pilot cohort demonstrated measurable impact—31% average growth across confidence indicators, with 96% of participants implementing new inclusive strategies.

Joji is also leading the development of Miss Major Middle, a tuition-free, public-access middle school opening in Fall 2027 in partnership with NYC Public Schools and D13. Named for Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a Black transgender elder who dedicated her life to caring for her community, the school will be the first in America designed from the ground up to center LGBTQ+ youth and families.

Joji is an accomplished educator and social justice advocate with over 20 years of teaching and leadership experience spanning multiple educational settings and grade levels. They hold a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, a Master of Education from Bank Street College, and a School Buildings Leader Certification from the State of New York.

Joji is nonbinary and trans, a parent of three children in D13 schools, and lives in the community they serve. Their life’s work reflects a deep commitment to building joyful, affirming spaces where the next generation of genderful youth can thrive.
